Conventus is seeking an experienced Head of Wholesale Lending to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing the strategic vision for the wholesale lending division. This senior-level role will oversee all aspects of broker and correspondent partnerships, including recruitment, relationship management, pricing strategy, team leadership, and channel profitability. The ideal candidate has a strong background in real estate private lending, with deep expertise in bridge, fix and flip, ground-up construction, and DSCR loan programs.
This role reports to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) and works closely with Capital Markets, Credit, Operations, Product, and Technology teams
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive wholesale lending strategy aligned with Conventus’ business goals
- Identify and engage high-quality channel partners (brokers, JV partners, referral sources)
- Set and deliver volume, margin, and partner satisfaction targets for wholesale
- Monitor market trends to identify growth opportunities and adjust strategy accordingly
- Define and optimize operational processes for efficiency and scalability
Team Management
- Recruit, train, and lead a team of Account Executives to cover key broker networks
- Set performance goals and drive accountability across the team
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional growth opportunities.
- Partner cross-functionally—especially with CRO, Operations, Credit, Capital Markets, and Product—to align on goals and resolve escalations
Partner Development
- Source and onboard high-quality mortgage brokers and partners
- Develop a policy for screening and onboarding brokers and the assignment of coverage
- Build and maintain long-term, productive relationships with partners with appropriate coverage based on the opportunity
- Oversee training and education programs for brokers on product offerings and underwriting guidelines
- Work closely with credit, underwriting, and capital markets teams to ensure competitive pricing and product features
- Identify tools and technology necessary to effectively execute the wholesale strategy
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and market demands and implement changes to pricing and terms based on these trends
- Work closely with the Credit team to align wholesale lending with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
- Implement wholesale-specific guardrails around eligible asset types, LTV/DSCR thresholds, and portfolio concentration.
- Report regularly on risk KPIs (e.g. early defaults, concentration) to leadership.
Reporting and Performance
- Use data to identify trends, recommend actions, and optimize the channel.
- Present regular performance reviews to the executive team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field (MBA preferred).
- 10+ years in mortgage or commercial lending with significant experience in wholesale/origination channels.
- Proven track record in building and scaling broker channels.
- Solid understanding of loan underwriting (Bridge, DSCR, Construction, Multifamily).
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across credit, operations, capital markets, and sales teams.
- Strong leadership and mentorship skills—experience managing managers.
- Exceptional oral and written communication with an ability to represent Conventus externally.
