Overview
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of CMA’s Executive Leadership Team, responsible for leading the organization’s internal operations, systems, and culture. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO ensures that Residential Services, Community Programs, and Human Resources operate efficiently and effectively in alignment with CMA’s mission to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This strategic leader will drive operational excellence, organizational planning, and cross-departmental collaboration, fostering a high-performance, values-driven workplace which supports growth and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Partner with the CEO to execute CMA’s strategic goals and priorities across all operational departments.
- Provide direct supervision and leadership to Vice Presidents of Residential Services, Community Programs, and Human Resources.
- Lead organization-wide planning processes and implement integrated work plans with clear accountability and performance metrics.
- Monitor and enhance organizational systems, infrastructure, and workflows to ensure high-quality service delivery and future growth.
- Oversee a high-performing Human Resources function focused on talent acquisition, performance management, benefits, training, compliance, and succession planning.
- Cultivate a strong, inclusive, values-based culture, lead initiatives in employee engagement, DEI, and leadership development.
- Establish compensation philosophy and ensure equitable and strategic annual compensation planning.
- Act as a staff advocate, supporting employee voice through feedback channels, town halls, and active engagement.
- Ensure efficient systems for documentation, communication, records management, and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Oversee agency facilities and administrative services to support safe, effective, and comfortable work environments (both on-site and remote).
- Manage contracts, procurement, health and safety, and facility-related compliance.
- Collaborate with the CFO to align operations with financial goals, oversee budgeting processes, and evaluate program performance against budgets.
- Provide oversight of contracts, insurance, legal matters, and organizational risk.
- Ensure policies and procedures are current, efficient, and consistently implemented.
- Provide strategic direction and support to department leaders to ensure programs meet performance goals and regulatory standards.
- Oversee internal policies, procedures, risk management, and compliance efforts.
- Implement monitoring systems to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of CMA’s services and adapt based on findings and emerging best practices.
- Support innovation and continuous improvement across all service areas.
- Act as liaison to external stakeholders, including community partners, donors, families, and regulatory agencies.
- Attend and present at Board and committee meetings; prepare reports and recommendations as needed.
- Represent CMA at key events, conferences, and community engagements.
- Master’s degree in Business, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred; Bachelor's degree with significant experience will be considered.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit, health, or human services, including 3+ years at the executive level.
- Proven ability to manage operations, lead teams, implement strategic plans, and foster organizational culture.
- Strong understanding of HR management, compliance, budgeting, program evaluation, and organizational development.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Commitment to CMA’s mission, values, and vision for equity and inclusion.
Pay: $160,000 to $180,000/year
