Our Residential Services program operates six homes in Newton and Brookline where our team provides the individuals in these homes with a safe and comfortable environment.
Job Title: Chief Financial Officer
Responsible To: CEO
Responsible For: Controller, Senior Staff Accountant, IT Administrator, Outsourced IT Services, Outsourced Facilities company.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in management or business administration with coursework in finance, accounting and computer science desirable; and/or four (4) years progressively responsible experience in accounting, and/or in computer science/technology. Seven or more years of managerial experience in an accounting environment, including non-profit organization. Financial management experience, knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), strong analytical skills and someone who is very detail oriented. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to provide leadership and work effectively as a member of the senior management team, the ability to work independently, take initiative, and handle multiple priorities, intermediate knowledge of computer systems, including all windows platforms, hardware and software while keeping current with changing technology. Possession of a valid Driver’s license and a willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.
Summary Description: A key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO works closely with the CEO setting policies, providing strategic direction and oversight, and ensuring sound fiscal management and prudent stewardship of resources. Performs a wide range of difficult-to-complex activities relating to the responsibility for all accounting and financial management functions and reporting. Institutes and administers financial and administrative practices and procedures which produce timely and accurate financial reports for the organization. Sets goals and direction in budget control, forecasting and analysis. Oversees development and management of operational and individual program budgets. Directs and manages the agency’s annual audit and prepares all required tax reports.
Coordinates administrative, accounting and internal control functions and procedures, supervises finance/administration staff and provides financial assistance and support to the entire organization. Provides expertise and leadership in the development of plans, instructions and procedures for all accounting functions and the performance of proper follow-up to ensure compliance to these instructions. Serves as the risk manager and as the primary liaison with counsel on all legal matters. Oversees organizational assets including facilities and technology and those responsible for their day-to-day management. Supervises the network environment and provides technical assistance to the organization including oversight of the network administrator.
Duties And Responsibilities
I. General Responsibilities
- Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
- Oversees preparation, review, and distribution of monthly financials and related metrics.
- Provides management oversight to the Finance and Administration Department.
- Evaluates the performance of personnel in the Finance and Administrative Departments. Recommends training requirements, has the duty to keep the staff at the highest level of skill necessary the organization’s needs and objectives.
- Manages organizational system of accounts and oversees books and records on all transactions and assets.
- Establishes major economic objectives and policies for the organization and prepares reports that outline financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations.
- Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures (including the cost accounting system) and analyzes and reports variances.
- Develops finance policies and procedures, revises them to be more useful and efficient.
- Determines depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items.
- Assures that the agency Inventory systems are in place and is kept current.
- Directs and ensures proper coordination of all financial and administrative affairs.
- Directs and participates in the development of goals, objectives, policies and procedures in administration and finance.
- Monitors and evaluates accounting systems, audits of accounts and internal control methods.
- In conjunction with the CEO, undertakes strategic and tactical planning, including evaluating and forecasting for new organizational opportunities or influences.
- Supports Finance Committee of Board by attending meetings and preparing and presenting information.
- Attends Board of Directors meetings as necessary.
- Oversees audit preparation and works with auditors through audit completion.
- Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
- Assists and provides technical support and information, to the CEO and Vice President of Programs, in the preparation and generation of the annual budget.
- Monitors budgets and the profitable functioning of all operations of the agency.
- Collaborates with the CEO and Vice President of Programs, in the strategy, generation and execution of State contracts and amendments.
- Prepare and prioritize all capital needs and investments for buildings and technology, including design and construction of new facilities and/or any necessary renovations.
- Maintain a program of risk management and insurance coverage which adequately protects the value of organizational assets.
- Coordinate professional services and procurement to ensure competitive relationships with service providers.
- Attends seminars/trainings as needed to keep abreast of changing technology and finance trends.
- Supports program participants’ right to express their religious affiliations and cultural traditions through preferred and relevant activities. Supports diversity of individuals served through respect of religious preferences and/or cultural backgrounds.
- Supervision of the network administrator and outsourced IT services
- Keep abreast of all new technology and related software
Skills: Understanding and coordinating a complex financial operation; developing, revising and installing accounting systems; preparing varied financial reports, and analyses; supervising and training staff. Must have thorough current knowledge of computers and related technology.
