Job Summary:
The New York Times is a leading journalism organization that seeks to help people understand the world. They are looking for a product-minded Engineering Manager to oversee technical aspects of their Community services, manage an engineering team, and drive impactful projects that enhance reader engagement.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the technical roadmap for new products within our Community experience, ensuring it is reliable, efficient, and secure and delivers value.
• Partner with engineers, Product, Design, and Data counterparts to identify, scope, and prioritize impactful projects.
• Work with our Moderation team to ensure reliable 24x7 global operations.
• Partner with engineers to set technical strategies to achieve this roadmap.
• Manage engineers, ensuring that contributors are effective in their technical work and in their collaborations.
• Coach the team on product engineering, deepening their product and strategy awareness and encouraging systemic engineering thinking.
• Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 1+ year of experience as an Engineering Manager or 3+ years in technical leadership role
• Experience setting and implementing technical strategies
• Experience managing production operations for high-availability systems
• Experience developing a high-performance team and growing its skills over time
