BASIC FUNCTION OF THE JOB:

This core job function for this position is to support assigned attorney(s) in the office on all aspects of litigation files that are assigned to the attorney/paralegal team. The Paralegal must be able to work well independently, but with supervision and direction from the responsible attorney(s). The Paralegal will perform tasks such as preparing discovery demands and responses, drafting motions and pleadings, keeping files organized, handling case-related documents, and assisting in trial/hearing/mediation/deposition preparations.

Major Duties/Responsibilities Of The Job

  1. Drive discovery process (draft and serve discovery demands & responses with oversight by attorneys).
  2. Follow up with clients and adversaries on investigation, discovery demands, responses, and court orders to ensure deadlines are met.
  3. Obtain relevant file materials from clients/claims necessary for defense.
  4. Draft discovery motions and Meet & Confer Letters with oversight by attorney.
  5. Create request lists or subpoenas for medical records, monitor responses, and update medical chronologies.
  6. Draft reports summarizing discovery responses and subpoenaed records, demonstrating proficiency in identifying relevant facts or medical conditions.
  7. Perform legal research (Westlaw) and legal writing to draft motions.
  8. Stay current with court rules, procedures, and practices regarding discovery, deadlines, and e-filing.
  9. Utilize ProLaw effectively to organize emails, filings, and discovery.
  10. Use Adobe Pro/Kiteworks/DocuSign for document management and production.
  11. Review ProLaw dashboard daily to meet deadlines and obtain extensions when needed.
  12. Draft substantive motions and assist in trial preparation, including preparation of hearing/deposition binders.
  13. Demonstrate advanced skills in time management, organization, and communication.
  14. Foster team building and attend required CLE courses for certification, if applicable.
  15. Abide by ethical and confidentiality rules, maintaining sensitive information securely.
  16. Meet firm billing requirements.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time-management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Strong team skills and ability to work with all levels of staff.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Pro/Kiteworks/DocuSign, and knowledge of ESI Tools.
  • Ability to learn Prolaw and HotDocs platforms.

Experience And Education

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree or paralegal certification preferred.
  • Minimum of five years litigation paralegal experience, with prior insurance defense experience preferred.
