Position Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced School Bus Driver Instructor to serve as the primary trainer and mentor for our team of school bus drivers. The ideal candidate will be responsible for classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, ongoing safety refreshers, and compliance with all 19-A requirements. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining our high standards of safety, professionalism, and performance.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, ongoing safety refreshers, and compliance with all 19-A requirements. This individual will play a critical role in maintaining our high standards of safety, professionalism, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver classroom instruction on state and company regulations, defensive driving, and safety practices.
- Provide behind-the-wheel training to new drivers, ensuring they meet company and regulatory standards.
- Conduct road tests, performance evaluations, and recertification assessments in compliance with NYSDMV Article 19-A and DOT guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of training, evaluations, and compliance documents.
- Monitor and mentor driver trainees throughout the certification process.
- Travel occasionally to other depot locations to conduct training and support company-wide instruction efforts.
- Stay up to date with changes in regulations and best practices in the transportation and school bus industry.
- Collaborate with safety, compliance, and operations teams to ensure a seamless training process.
- Report incidents, training progress, and concerns to the management team as necessary.
- High school diploma required; college degree or equivalent experience in the school transportation field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the school bus industry.
- Certified 19-A Examiner required.
- NY State Certified School Bus Driving Instructor (SBDI) required.
- Strong knowledge of state, federal and NYC DOE transportation regulations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to flexible scheduling.
- Bilingual is a plus but not required.
- Must have a clean and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
