Job Summary
Develop programs to control machining or processing of metal parts by automatic machine tools, equipment, or systems.
Principal Responsibilities
- Determine the sequence of machine operations and select proper cutting tools to shape workpieces.
- Revise programs or tapes to eliminate errors and retest to ensure problems are resolved.
- Analyze job orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and design data to calculate dimensions, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates.
- Determine reference points, machine cutting paths, or hole locations, and compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures.
- Observe machines on trial runs or conduct computer simulations to ensure proper functioning and compliance with specifications.
- Compare programs or printouts with original part specifications and blueprints to verify accuracy.
- Write programs in machine controller language or CAM systems and store on network drives.
- Modify existing programs to improve efficiency.
- Transfer data to other media as needed.

Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.
- Understanding of engineering principles and technology in manufacturing.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost management.
- Programming skills for CNC equipment, including G&M codes and CAM programming.
- Ability to solve complex problems and make sound decisions considering costs and benefits.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks for drawing and manufacturing prints.
Experience Requirements
Prior experience as a Machinist or Programmer, control-based programming, CAM, CAD, 2D and solid modeling.
Environmental Requirements
- Work schedule typically 40 hours/week, may include on-call, evenings, or weekends.
- Ability to lift/maneuver 50 lbs.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
