Responsibilities
As a Casualty Claims Representative , you'll provide prompt, fair and effective claims service for Insureds and Claimants involving Commercial Auto and General Liability exposures through the use of phone and correspondence.

- Investigate claims made by insureds and claimants, including proper coverage determination, gathering pertinent information, taking recorded statements, arranging for outside appraisal of damages if warranted, evaluating and negotiating settlements, and denying claims either not covered or where no liability exists. Obtain proper forms and documents.
- Handle claims involving personal injuries or third-party property damages from liability situations, such as motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, or alleged negligent behavior.
- Evaluate damage appraisals and bills for proper documentation and accuracy to establish claim value.
- Establish and maintain proper reserving throughout the life of the claim file. Maintain appropriate diary schedules of all claims in your care.
- Complete all necessary reporting forms according to procedures on a daily basis. Demonstrate timely entry of appropriate claim reserves and claim payments. Maintain chronological and appropriate file notes in the system.
- Issue settlement funds and closing documents to protect policyholder and company interests.
- Inform the proper Underwriting Department of risk hazards discovered through the investigation of the claim. Advise your supervisor immediately of all claims of a severe nature or exceeding reserve or settlement authority.
- Work with defense attorneys and independent adjusters on claims in litigation or that require outside assistance.
- Attend mediations and settlement conferences when warranted.
- Ensure file reviews demonstrate high marks in quality, decision-making, and accuracy.
- Obtain and maintain all required licenses/certifications and meet all continuous education requirements.
What you need to have:
- Bachelors degree
- Minimum of 3-5 years claims adjusting experience in selected line of business
- Adjusters license and required continuing education as required by state jurisdiction
- Ability to work with attorneys and legal contracts in addition to insurance contracts
- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to project a warm and friendly manner in all business contacts and maintain a professional relationship with fellow workers, insureds, and the general public
