Job Description:

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Division in conjunction with the Miami Transplant Institute and the Antibiotic Stewardship Program are recruiting an assistant or higher level faculty position to increase the scope of our program. The faculty must have formal training and/or strong clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of Pediatric Solid Organ Transplant infectious complications. In addition, the faculty will be in charge of the pediatric antibiotic stewardship program, working closely with the pediatric pharmacy and the adult program. The candidate needs to have clinical and scholarly expertise along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate must be able to work efficiently and independently as part of collaborative groups. Research opportunities will be available.

Responsibilities include:

  • Care of pediatric patients referred to the Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease in both inpatient and outpatient settings;

  • Supervising and teaching the fellows, residents and medical students;

  • Provide mentorship for quality assurance and research projects

  • On-call duties shared with other members of the division's faculty;

  • Conduct of basic, translational, and clinical research to develop publications and grant submissions.

  • The candidate will work with the Miami Transplant Institute

    • Will provide pre-and post- transplant evaluations,

    • Inpatient consultation and outpatient care for pediatric transplant patient s.

    • Attend meetings involving the pediatric transplant patients.

  • The candidate will be hold the administrative title of associate director for the Pediatric Antibiotic Stewardship Program

    • Will provide physician back up for all pediatric antibiotic stewardship program activities

    • Will provide structured rounds for the clinical pharmacist assigned to this program

    • Provide logistic analysis and develop interventions to improve antibiotic selection, reduce cost

  • The candidate will also serve as the representative for the Pediatric Infection Control Program

  • Will review, update and develop policies to reduce nosocomial infections

  • Review and update electronic order sets as needed

  • The candidate will participate in the Antimicrobial and Anti-infective Committee and other committees as they relate to antibiotic stewardship and infection control

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • MD/DO degree

  • Diplomate of the Board of Pediatrics

  • Board eligible or Board certified in Pediatric Infectious Disease

  • Demonstrated proficiency to perform research (clinical/basic/translational) and evidence of research success

  • Desired: Pediatric Transplant Infectious Disease Fellowship Training or equivalent

  • Desired: Experience in Infection Control and Antibiotic Stewardship programs

  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the teaching of students and housestaff

  • Be eligible for or maintaining a valid Medical License in the State of Florida and a valid DEA license

  • Ability to work efficiently and collegially within a diverse environment as part of collaborative groups

  • Ability to adhere to policies and procedures
