Job Summary

The CNC Programmer plans CNC (Computer Numerical Control) programs to control contour path machining of metal parts on automatic machine tools by performing the following duties:

Essential Functions

1. Creates instructions for machinists.
2. Reviews 2D & 3D CAD design blueprints.
3. Makes calculations for programming including where materials should be cut.
4. Translates instructions into a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) program.
5. Communicates with engineers and employees who will use the programs.
6. Checks completed programs by running simulations or tests.
7. Prepares geometric layout of designs using proper software.
8. Determines sequence of operations in a program.
9. Chooses cutting tools that will be needed.
10. Analyzes job order and performs necessary calculations.
11. Writes programs and modifies existing ones for increased efficiency.
12. Analyzes and selects speeds and cutting tools for programs.
13. Makes improvements to set up times for a task and contouring of complex shapes.
14. Simplifies tooling time for workers and increases productivity for the company.
15. Evaluates all completed designs to validate their functions and ensure they successfully reduce time and money for the company.
16. Monitors all programs to ensure they follow blueprint instructions and safely and successfully complete the task.
17. Provides training for employees on automated systems.
18. Complies with all safety rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability displayed and accuracy of work produced, meeting company standards, and requiring little to no rework.
• Searches out new tasks and expands their ability to perform assigned tasks without direct supervision.
• Punctuality and attendance.
• Willingness and cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors; ability to accept constructive criticism.
• Follow quality environmental policies and have knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001.
• Follow safety procedures, security protocol, and wear proper PPE.

Education

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

• Proficiency with MasterCam CNC lathe and mill programming software required.

Background Prerequisites

• Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of AS9100 and IS14001.

Working Conditions And Physical Demands
