SIMPLIFI CLINICAL INTERVIEWS
• General Information
• Beds: 44
• Minimum experience: 1.5 years general nursing experience
• Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, only with 2+ years of experience
• Travelers must live 100 miles away from any Monument Health facility
• Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler
• Patient Types:
• This is a mixed acuity unit meaning there will be Intermediate Care acuity as well as Tele and MedSurg - please ensure traveler understands
• Direct admits, ED admits, Post Cath Lab, etc
• MI, NSTEMI & STEMI (IABP would go to ICU), CHF, Dysrhythmia management, Pacemaker malfunction, Epicardial pacers
• Backup Stroke unit and Medical Overflow
• Step down level experience with post cardiac/vascular, post-cardiac cath patients, post open heart surgery, post TAVR, post EP studies, post pacemaker insertion
• Patient Ratios:
• RN: 1:4 most of the time, can be 1:3 (acuity dependent)
• Required Certifications:
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Required Education:
• Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
• Skills required:
• PCU level RN
• Experience with Cardiac procedural recovery (CABG/TAVR/post cardiac cath), MI pharmacology, titratable Cardiac/vasoactive gtts (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levo, Dopamine) - please request manager approval if traveler does not have this, Heparin gtts, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes management, TNK administration (preferred)
• Support on the Unit:
• CNA (Ratio: 1:5-8, depending on shift)
• Charge nurse - Unassigned
• Phlebotomy - Yes, peripheral blood draws
• IV/VAT Team - No
• Resource Nurse - Occasionally
• Tele tech would oversee cardiac monitoring - RN would confirm strips 6a & 6p
• RT - yes, 24/7
• Hospitalist - in facility 24/7, but not dedicated to unit
• Charting System/Equipment:
• Epic - please let CRT know if traveler does not have EPIC experience so they can ask approval
• Alaris
• Omnicell
• Floating: If yes, where?
• Primarily to our sister unit, General PCU - as needed
• Could also be floated to MS/Tele or ICU to care for PCU level patients
• Could be floated within scope of practice and below
• Orientation: (facility and unit)
• 2 partial days of education
• (3) 12hr shifts on the unit
• Scheduling:
• Weekend rotation: Every other
• Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No call
• Holiday Expectations: Every other
• Approval of time off? Up to 7 days, must extend if taking a full week off. No time off the first (3) weeks of August annually (Sturgis Bike Rally)
