CNC Programmer

Purpose of the Position:

Analyze production schedules and nesting priorities, then write complex CNC programs used to manufacture essential component parts. Utilize various CNC programming software to convert CAD geometry and blueprints into machine instructions, typically involving CNC laser cutting and punching equipment, but potentially other process equipment such as plasma cutting or bending machines.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Write, create, and optimize tool and path programs for manufactured parts.
  • Develop efficient nests for CNC machines to optimize material utilization and run time.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers to develop effective geometry for existing and future process equipment.
  • Maintain program control to ensure current design geometry is used for shop floor programs.
  • Manage a database where programming geometry and programs are stored.
  • Assess and recommend tooling changes or upgrades based on program effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with software suppliers to ensure programming software is maintained and current.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in writing complex CNC nesting programs for at least 3 years.
  • Highly skilled in utilizing various CNC nesting and programming software such as TruTops, SigmaNest, Radan, and AP100 to achieve optimal machine performance.
  • Able to exercise independent judgment to maximize raw material utilization.
  • Capable of making significant production decisions with little supervision.
  • Skilled in using network infrastructure to communicate with remotely located machine controls.
  • Extensive training and experience in CNC programming.
  • Experienced with turret punch tooling and application across various materials and thicknesses.
  • Knowledgeable in laser and plasma cutting processes.
  • Ability to handle multiple, changing priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with good math abilities.
  • Exhibits good character traits such as initiative, excellent attendance, honesty, a desire to learn, and a positive attitude.
