Role description:

The Batch and Furnace Manager is responsible for furnace, batch house, and raw material operations. This includes environmental controls, maintenance, and ensuring effective management of the departments labor, equipment, maintenance, and expense budgets.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure safety and environmental compliance
  2. Work in partnership with the Production and Quality Managers to produce glass containers while continuously improving quality and efficiency
  3. Supervise salary and hourly personnel engaged in all phases of plant's batch and furnace operation
  4. Perform administrative duties for effective department management, including employee selection and development, salary and budget administration, labor relations, cost control, and performance monitoring
  5. Maintain timely and accurate reporting
  6. Manage ordering of raw materials and processing receiving slips to accounting
  7. Report furnace or equipment issues to the furnace operations team
  8. Conduct periodic inspections of department systems and equipment, including furnaces, and take appropriate action
  9. Direct the department's preventative maintenance program
  10. Manage department and plant standards, procedures, and best practices
  11. Ensure compliance with environmental and food safety standards as per plant policies

Minimum skills / qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of experience in furnace operations and large-scale melting operations
  • At least 3 years in a leadership role within a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work occasionally on weekends and holidays
  • On-call availability for furnace issues
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%

Preferred skills / qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or related field
  • Prior experience in glass furnace operations
  • Experience managing a preventative maintenance program
