The endoscopy technician is an integral part of the healthcare team in the gastroenterology practice setting. The endoscopy technician will serve in an assistant role, helping with patient procedures and care surrounding endoscopy procedures. Daily duties include preparation for the procedure, assisting in the actual procedures, cleaning and maintaining equipment between procedures.
Duties and responsibilities
• Maintain inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies.
• Perform safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning.
• Prepare the procedure room according to endoscopic procedure requirements.
• Clean, disinfect, or calibrate scopes or other endoscopic instruments according to
• manufacturer recommendations and facility standards.
• Maintain and monitor endoscopic equipment.
• Assist physicians and/or nurses during endoscopic procedures.
• Collect specimens from patients using standard medical procedures.
• Assists in precepting new and novice employees.
• Recommends change in practice, policy and procedure to appropriate person or
• representative which addresses identified needs or problems.
• Assists in implementation of change. Demonstrates support of changes which will
• improve patient care.

Qualifications
• High School diploma or equivalent
• 1-year experience in a patient care environment as either a Certified Nursing Assistant,
Emergency Medical Technician or graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program.
Preferred Qualifications:
• SGNA (Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates) Certification
• 3 years' experience in a hospital setting.
