Job Title: Medical Office Assistant
Location: Staten Island, NY
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Hours: 40 hours/week (8 hours/day)
Hourly rate: $21/hour on W2 (Negotiable)
Role Overview:
The Medical Office Assistant provides both clinical and administrative support to physicians and surgeons, contributing to high-quality patient care. The role involves direct patient care assistance, medical procedures, and office tasks using electronic and manual systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Support:

  • Assist with patient care: escorting, dressing, transferring, collecting specimens, and point-of-care testing.
  • Perform venipuncture, EKGs, and assist with medical procedures.
  • Take and record vital signs, relay physician instructions to patients and families.
  • Prepare exam rooms and medical instruments following sterilization protocols.
  • Monitor logs for medications, crash carts, sterilization, and testing.
  • Check and dispose of expired medications and supplies in compliance with policy.
Administrative Duties:
  • Handle patient scheduling, registration, and updates to demographic/insurance info.
  • Maintain and manage patient medical records (manual and EMR-based).
  • Process prescription refills and enter orders into EMR for physician review.
  • Coordinate referrals, surgeries, pre-certifications, and consent forms.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as managing forms, reports, and patient communications.
  • Order and restock medical supplies as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years as a medical assistant; phlebotomy experience desirable.
  • Certifications: Certified Medical Assistant from an approved school.
  • Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; EMR systems familiarity.
  • Soft Skills: Effective communication, especially in a multicultural environment.
