We are currently seeking an Associate Underwriter to join our Local Marine team. This role supports the marine underwriting team by managing a book of business from new submissions through renewals. The Associate Underwriter will analyze marine risks, prepare and issue quotes and policies, and collaborate with internal teams to support profitable growth and compliance with underwriting governance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze new business and renewal submissions in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Produce and process quotes, binders, policies, endorsements, and ensure timely delivery of contractual documentation.
  • Serve as a liaison with brokers and clients to gather underwriting data, clarify submissions, and ensure quality service.
  • Assist with premium collection and accounting coordination.
  • Works with management, senior underwriters and underwriters on accounts with varying complexity to issue and process local written Marine policies (Cargo, STP, Hull, Logistics) for US based companies
  • Work closely with underwriting managers, operations, claims, marketing, and corporate functions to identify opportunities and ensure portfolio cohesion.
  • Monitor and support the profitability of a marine book of business.
  • Maintain compliance with internal underwriting strategy, referral protocols, and company guidelines.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience in commercial or marine underwriting, with exposure to ocean cargo, inland marine, or related lines.
  • Solid understanding of underwriting principles, coverage structures, pricing, and risk evaluation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build broker and internal relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to resolve unique and complex business problems.
  • Self-motivated and organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and collaborate across teams to support underwriting initiatives and business development.


Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $70,000 -$ 95,000 plus eligibility for a performance-based annual bonus. Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors including experience, education, and location.
