Job Title: Structural Steel Estimator

Salary Range $85-110,000/yr
Position Summary:
The Structural Steel Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects. This role involves analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. The Estimator plays a critical role in supporting the sales and project management teams to secure and deliver successful projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review architectural and structural drawings to determine scope of work and required materials.
- Perform take-offs and quantify materials, labor, and equipment needed for fabrication and erection.
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates using industry-standard software and databases.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to clarify scope and pricing strategies.
- Prepare and submit bid proposals on time, ensuring compliance with bid instructions and specifications.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and value engineering processes as required.
- Maintain and update historical cost data and estimating templates.
- Assist in project hand-off to project management team upon award.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in structural steel estimating or related field (fabrication, erection, detailing).
- Strong knowledge of structural steel components, connections, and fabrication/erection methods.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Familiar with estimating software (e.g., Tekla EPM, Bluebeam, MS Excel).
- Excellent math, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in steel detailing or shop fabrication.
- Familiarity with AISC standards and local building codes.
- Knowledge of project management processes and construction scheduling.
