The Senior Buyer is responsible for supplier recommendation, negotiation, inventory: optimization, management, ordering, and expediting, vendor relationship management and problem resolution of all assigned buy lines and vendors.
Software/ERP
- Plans and buys assigned direct and indirect materials and services utilizing Blue Ridge demand planning software.
- Regularly monitors and updates key Blue Ridge SCP fields including lead-time, buying multiples, order cycle optimization and seasonal profiles to ensure SOQ integrity.
- Thoroughly reviews exceptions at the end of each 4 week forecast period and makes adjustments (adds events, updates seasonal profiles, etc.) to ensure forecast integrity.
- Utilizes Blue Ridge Advanced Tasks including Advanced Seasonality, Event Planning, Forward Buying, Projections and Exception Optimization to make the best possible inventory management decisions.
Vendor Management
- Negotiates with assigned suppliers to attain targeted costs and terms.
- Monitors vendor performance and notifies Purchasing Manager of any potential issues.
- Provides feedback regarding vendor performance to Purchasing Manager for vendor rating program.
Tactical
- Receives requisition for non-stock items, verifies accuracy and completeness, resolves any issues with salesperson, and negotiates with vendor for best costs and terms.
- Manages and negotiates pricing for the procurement of non-stock purchases for design build and commercial quote materials; Direct PO amounts as set by Purchasing Manager.
- Understands FFA targets and manages order process to take advantage of them while not sacrificing other assigned competing goals.
Strategic
- Maintains inventory levels and uses current knowledge, discretion and judgment to determine adjusted order quantity and timing to meet targeted inventory turns.
- Develops strategies to attain assigned targeted cost reduction goals.
- Evaluates and recommends alternative sources of supply to Purchasing Manager.
- Provides input on purchasing decisions and policies to ensure the highest return on inventory investments.
- Continuously develops and utilizes in depth understanding of product relationships and match ups to ensure sound inventory management practices and decisions.
