Program Specialist - Temporary (Cultural & Linguistic Services)
Company Overview: Our client is a leading healthcare company in Orange County, dedicated to providing health services with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are seeking a highly motivated Program Specialist for a Temporary position in our Cultural & Linguistic Services department. This position will support our efforts in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations related to cultural and linguistic services.
Position Summary: The ideal candidate will assist in the development, implementation, and coordination of the company's cultural and linguistic services, ensuring all materials and services meet the needs of our diverse membership. The ideal candidate will play a key role in organizing and managing translation and interpretation services, coordinating cultural competency training, and supporting program compliance with regulatory standards.
Work Duration: Up to 6 months
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Work Type: Onsite
Position Responsibilities
•Coordinate the request and delivery of translation and interpreter services for CalOptima Health member materials in multiple languages, including American Sign Language.
•Oversee the vending of professional translation services in one or more threshold languages.
•Coordinate alternative format material requests (Braille, Audio, Large Print) with vendors.
•Assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of cultural competency training.
•Collaborate with regulatory agencies (DHCS, CMS, NCQA) in completing reports, surveys, and audits regarding cultural and linguistic services.
•Research and respond to member grievances related to vendor issues.
•Process vendor invoices for translation and interpretation services in a timely and accurate manner.
•Review and interpret regulations related to cultural and linguistic services and ensure compliance.
•Participate in special projects as needed to support department initiatives and goals.
•Maintain accurate records and files related to program services.
•Strong communication skills and ability to engage with diverse groups.
•Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and other job-specific software.
•Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
•Ability to read information from computer screens, forms, and other printed materials.
•Ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
•Ability to sit for extended periods and perform administrative tasks.
•Ability to lift 10 to 25 pounds as necessary for office supplies and materials.
•Primarily an indoor, sedentary office setting with a moderate noise level.
•Occasional travel may be required for meetings or to support other locations.
Experience & Education
•High School diploma or equivalent.
•2 years of experience in project coordination, translation, or interpretation services.
•Bachelor's degree in healthcare, cultural and linguistic studies, or a related field.
•Experience with managed care, government programs (Medicare, Medi-Cal/Medicaid), or working with culturally diverse populations.
•Bilingual in English and one of the company's defined threshold languages (Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Vietnamese).
•Experience in healthcare, particularly in a health plan or service delivery setting.
