Position Summary
The Employee and Labor Relations Representative is responsible for managing and improving the relationship between the organization and its employees, with a focus on union-related matters. This role ensures compliance with labor laws, interprets and applies collective bargaining agreements, and addresses employee concerns. The representative plays a key role in resolving conflicts, promoting fair treatment, and maintaining a positive work environment. They work closely with HR, union representatives, and management to support organizational goals and foster strong labor relations and employee engagement.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience in employee and labor relations, including knowledge of labor laws, grievance procedures, and collective bargaining. Experience in a unionized environment and familiarity with negotiating labor contracts are highly preferred. The candidate must balance employee needs with organizational goals, demonstrating professionalism, fairness, and strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. A proactive approach to conflict resolution and adaptability in a dynamic environment are essential.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for workplace issues, grievances, and disputes.
- Provide guidance on employee relations policies, legal compliance, and standards.
- Investigate complaints, conduct interviews, and resolve issues fairly and promptly.
- Assist managers with performance management, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
- Collaborate with HR to develop programs that enhance employee engagement and retention.
- Work with union representatives to address concerns and interpret union agreements.
- Monitor workplace trends and conduct audits to prevent escalation of issues.
- Conduct training on employee relations topics, conflict management, and labor laws.
- Maintain records of investigations and resolutions.
- Stay updated on labor laws, regulations, and best practices.
