Activities Assistant (Healthcare)
- Participate in planning and conducting individual, small, and large group activities.
- Assist in providing effective communication between employees at all levels, residents, their families, support personnel, government agencies, and the public to meet residents' needs and interests.
- Contribute to community planning related to the facility's services and residents' needs.
- Assist in developing the monthly activity calendar and maintaining attendance records.
- Support the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee in developing and implementing plans to address quality deficiencies, as requested by the Activities Director.
- Participate in discharge planning, and assist in developing and implementing activity care plans and resident assessments.
- Arrange transportation for residents for outings, appointments, or discharges as needed.
- Develop a monthly activity schedule including outings, group activities, and in-room activities for bed-bound or isolated residents.
- Encourage residents to participate in self-initiated activities like hobbies, crafts, and reading; provide materials such as Braille or audio books as appropriate.
- Assist with documentation, including assessment records and quarterly progress notes, as assigned.
- Maintain the cleanliness and security of the Activity Department.
Supervisory Requirements
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferably, one year of experience in a long-term care facility.
Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend policy and procedure manuals.
- Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions.
- Basic math skills including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Problem-solving abilities and interpreting written, oral, or visual instructions.
Physical Demands
Requires standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling frequently; sitting occasionally; talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling frequently; lifting up to 50 pounds regularly; and occasional climbing, stooping, and crouching. Vision must include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
Work Environment
Typically low to moderate noise level, with accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
