Join The Night Ministry as a Government Grants Manager Strengthen public partnerships that power life-changing work across Chicago. About The Night Ministry The Night Ministry is a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides human connection, housing, and health care to individuals struggling with housing stability or poverty. Our work is centered around two core service areas: Outreach and Youth Housing . Through our Outreach programs, we meet people where they are, on CTA platforms, in encampments, at libraries, and across city neighborhoods; offering consistent, compassionate care and vital health services. Our Youth Housing programs provide shelter and supportive services to young adults, helping them build stability and work toward their goals in safe, affirming environments. With a history rooted in dignity, inclusion, and trust, The Night Ministry is committed to walking alongside those we serve with empathy and respect. Public funding is essential to our work. As Government Grants Manager, you'll lead the charge in managing and growing our portfolio of city, state, and federal grants, ensuring we maintain strong relationships with government partners and maximize every opportunity to expand our impact. What You'll Do As Government Grants Manager, you'll oversee the full life cycle of government grants, from identifying opportunities and developing budgets to managing compliance and tracking performance. This role sits at the intersection of finance, development, and programs, offering a unique opportunity to shape how public funding supports mission-critical work. Key responsibilities include: Cultivating and maintaining relationships with government funders and agency contacts. Leading the strategic planning, proposal development, and submission process for government grant opportunities. Ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal contract requirements, including vouchers, budgets, and financial reporting. Supporting audits and monitoring visits and leading efforts related to DCFS licensing and government site reviews. Preparing and tracking grant budgets totaling over $3M annually, managing projections and adjustments. Collaborating cross-departmentally to align grant activities with organizational goals and services. Maintaining documentation, systems, and tracking tools to ensure transparency and accuracy across all government grant operations. Supporting the annual financial audit and managing restricted revenue reporting. What We're Looking For You're someone who thrives on managing complexity, communicating across teams, and building long-term relationships with public agencies. You understand how to navigate government systems and are energized by helping a mission-driven team stay accountable and strategic. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in public policy, public health, finance, accounting, or a related field. At least 4 years of experience with government grants, grant writing, or public funding oversight. Strong financial and data management skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency. Familiarity with federal, state, and city funders (e.g., HUD, HHS, IDHS, All Chicago, IAFCC). Experience with platforms like iSupplier, PMS, and eLOCCS is a plus. Excellent organizational, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong document management and attention to detail. Comfortable working independently and cross-functionally with teams at all levels. Flexible and able to manage multiple deadlines; occasional evening or weekend hours may be required. Why Work With Us Be part of a mission-driven team making an immediate difference in people's lives. Thrive in a collaborative, inclusive environment that values your experience and perspective. Gain meaningful connections through your work while advocating for equity and access across Chicago. Apply Today Even if you don't meet every qualification, we encourage you to apply.
