Major Gifts Officer - MUST BE LOCATED IN THE BAY AREA
The Internet Archive is seeking a results-driven Major Gifts Officer to manage and grow a portfolio of donors in the Bay Area. This role is ideal for someone who has direct experience managing major gift portfolios, cultivating donor relationships, and closing five- and six-figure gifts.
Were looking for someone who has experience guiding prospects through the full giving cycle - from lead generation to closing. Understands long-term donor engagement, and is skilled at inspiring contributions via DAFs, estate plans, or major gifts. Is comfortable building relationships that lead to high-impact giving. The Major Gift Officer is a strong communicator and writer, and enjoys the day-to-day work of fundraising.
This is not a leadership rolebut a hands-on, donor-facing position focused on outreach, follow-through, and collaboration with the philanthropy team. It also involves support for regional donor events and site visits.
Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a Bay Area donor portfolio with the goal of securing $13 million annually.
  • Identify and cultivate new major donor prospects.
  • Steward and solicit donors using customized moves management plans in CiviCRM.
  • Track progress and performance using CRM tools and donor wealth screening data.
  • Collaborate on donor events, visits, and stewardship plans with the CDO and team.
  • Write compelling donor communications, proposals, and follow-ups.
  • Ensure regular, strategic engagement with all prospects in your portfolio.
Qualifications
  • 38 years of major gift experience with proven results in securing large gifts.
  • Experience managing a personal portfolio and achieving revenue goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, data-driven, and comfortable using CRM and donor research tools.
  • Creative, collaborative, and able to manage up and across teams.
  • Bachelors degree required; Masters a plus.
