Job Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate all aspects of coding review, claim submission, charge reconciliation, and follow-up on denied claims related to coding for various specialties and providers.
  2. Provide coding, financial, and operational reports; offer feedback to providers to improve documentation, maximize revenue, and reduce denials.
  3. Review and train practices on local and national coding and reimbursement policies, including payer coding guidelines. Assist with clarifying financial responsibilities with patients and guarantors as needed.
  4. Monitor reports and work queues to ensure timely coding, charge submission, and accounts receivable follow-up.
  5. Perform charge reconciliation to ensure all revenue is captured accurately.
  6. Review denied claims for errors, correct coding issues, draft appeal letters, and follow up on appeals.
  7. Identify and suggest improvements for coding or documentation issues, escalating as necessary.
  8. Communicate with and train coding and A/R vendors regarding billing processes and collections.
  9. Work with front-end staff to verify patient insurance information and benefits, acting as a resource for financial clearance processes.
  10. Respond to inquiries from practices, physicians, and patients following guidelines and regulations.
  11. Serve as a resource on local and national coding and reimbursement policies.
  12. Collaborate with Revenue Integrity Analysts to stay updated on CPT, ICD-10, payer policies, and CMS updates; train staff accordingly.
  13. Adhere to compliance and patient confidentiality guidelines.
  14. Review unbilled charges, follow up with physicians or management, and ensure timely billing.
  15. Act as a liaison with coding vendors and review charge forms for completeness daily.
  16. Compare coding with documentation, clarify errors, and prepare appeals for denials.
  17. Analyze notes to ensure proper coding and prevent denials.
  18. Identify denial trends, train staff to prevent future issues, and develop training materials.
  19. Maintain active coding certifications as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent training.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and standard office equipment.
  • High accuracy in reviewing and analyzing coding and billing data.
  • Typing skills of at least 35 WPM.
Required Licenses:
  • Outpatient Coder - Cert (COC), Coding Specialist - Physician (CSP), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications such as CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or COC are preferred.

Qualified candidates must communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
