Role Overview

The Coding Specialty Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the specialty coding team, ensuring accurate and timely coding of medical records in compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational standards. This role provides leadership, training, and quality assurance for coders specializing in specific medical fields (e.g., cardiology, orthopedics, oncology) and collaborates with clinical and administrative staff to optimize coding accuracy and reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure staff understand expectations and have the tools to meet those expectations
  • Ensure colleagues understand their responsibilities and how to assess problems, take action, and escalate when needed
  • Set individual goals and meet regularly with team members
  • Meet with specialty groups biweekly or monthly to discuss updates and issues

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Certification in Procedural Coding with knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and CMS regulations
  • Minimum 5 years experience in coding and auditing
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and payer regulations
