The Customs Brokerage Manager is responsible for the timely and accurate filing of entries with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as well as the ultimate delivery of goods to customers. The manager will oversee and participate in the daily operations of the department.
Principle Accountabilities
- Ensure the team delivers accurate and timely entries, dispatches cargo to the ultimate consignee, and follows up on proof-of-delivery.
- Ensure billing accuracy.
- Oversee ISF and Cargowise systems; develop or improve operational processes, compliance & training standards, SOPs, and customer SOP requirements.
- Oversee FTZ compliance regarding brokerage.
- Coordinate efforts and communication with the Operations department.
- Create and prepare customer status reports regularly.
- Execute team entry and billing audits to ensure accuracy and identify training needs.
- Train and advise the team on Customs Brokerage Regulations.
- Monitor team performance against company standards and department goals; regularly audit shipment documents and accounting.
- Monitor problem files and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Issue work instructions to ensure timely and orderly file flow, including release, billing, and auditing.
- Identify staff training needs and develop training objectives.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate department goals and expectations.
- Review and assess documentation accuracy, verifying country of origin/export, IOR, terms of sale, and value to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Follow up daily on documentation discrepancies, troubleshooting and communicating effectively with customers and foreign origins.
- Escalate unresolved issues or risks before they impact the organization.
- Work closely with other departments and branches to deliver high-level customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with Customs regulations.
