Together, we will become the world's leading cancer reference laboratory.Position Summary:The Histotechnologist works under general supervision precisely and accurately performs a variety of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures. The Histotechnologist will research, troubleshoot, and resolve histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory. This position requires the production of the highest quality of embedding, microtomy, tissue grossing, tissue processing, H&E staining, manual and automated special staining, immunohistochemistry, and equipment maintenance.Responsibilities:Receives tissue specimens and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samplesProcesses paperwork associated with accessioning and reportingPerforms routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established Standard Operating ProceduresPerforms microtomy according to established Standard Operating ProceduresEmbeds processed tissue in paraffin waxPerforms coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automatedPerforms all special stain procedures according to established Standard Operating ProceduresPerforms filing of blocks and slides Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated testsExperience, Educations and QualificationsYears of Experience:Level I: 1+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferredLevel II: 4+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferredEducation:Bachelor of Science in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution - OR -Associate of Science in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution - OR -Equivalent education of 60 semester hours with 24 semester hours in biological and chemical science courses. Certification:Nationally: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)FL: current state technician or technologist licenseBasic understanding of laboratory techniquesPossesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasksAbility to communicate effectivelyStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to work independently Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining production and quality standardsMust be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the company's Safety Data Sheet DatabaseGood visual acuity including color perception required for certain departmentsMust be able to lift up to 50 poundsAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, national origin, religion, age, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or protected veteran status.Pay Range (will vary based on location & experience) $25.80 - $62.62 hourly, plus bonus In all instances, the salary paid will satisfy minimum salary laws.
