OVERVIEW: The Homeless Ministries Outreach Coordinator will actively engage in community outreach efforts to promote awareness of the Harbor Light Center, the inaugural stage of The Way Out program.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Coordinate homeless outreach efforts throughout downtown San FranciscoEstablish and maintain a regular outreach schedule in and around homeless encampmentsWork with SF Metro Corps units/officers for regular participation in the outreach schedule ensuring adequate coverage for spiritual, emotional, and physical care on all outingsWork with the San Francisco Culinary Training Academy students and instructor on a monthly outreach effort providing food prepared by the studentsInterface with external groups who have regular interaction with people who could benefit from the Harbor Light and The Way Out Extended Recovery programsProvide reports and input at regularly scheduled staff, advisory board, and coordinate council meetingsPromote Salvation Army recovery programs and services in all locations outreach is performedRecord key statistics related to outreach efforts and submit monthly reportsOperate and maintain the Street Homeless Outreach and Wellness (S.H.O.W.) van in good working order, keeping accurate mileage logs, maintenance records, and required license and insurance documents for the vehiclePurchase and maintain all supplies needed for outreach effortsRegular visits to the local food bank to obtain needed food/snacks for outreachFind resources/donors for socks, hygiene, clothing, etc.Work with Harbor Light program participants by having them volunteer with outreach effortsOrganize and upkeep of Outreach ClosetOther related duties as required EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent (required)CA driver's license (required)Associate's Degree in a related field (preferred)Experience working with the homeless population (2 years preferred)Experience with Microsoft programsSKILLS AND ABILITIES:Excellent organizational skills and detail-orientedExcellent verbal and written communication skillsTeam playerSelf-motivated and able to motivate othersAbility to maintain good rapport with other staff members, corps personnel and the publicKnowledge of Salvation Army practices, policies, and organization (preferred)EQUIPMENT USED: Modern Office Equipment and Relevant SoftwareStreet Homeless Outreach and Wellness (S.H.O.W.) vanPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
