POSITION SUMMARY

Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to play a critical role in managing and securing enterprise-class virtualized environments using Nutanix and VMware technologies across NIPRNET and SIPRNET networks.

This position leads daily system monitoring, infrastructure design, and the migration from VMware to Nutanix while ensuring mission readiness through robust backup, recovery, and DISA-compliant security practices. The administrator will troubleshoot complex hardware/software issues, manage change and incident processes, and collaborate with customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams to maintain peak operational performance. Success in this role requires expert-level virtualization skills, advanced systems administration experience, and the flexibility to provide after-hours support for critical operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):

System Monitoring & Reporting:

Conduct daily health checks for six Nutanix clusters, document alerts/errors, and maintain performance baselines.

Infrastructure Design & Transition : Design virtual infrastructure for the migration from VMware to Nutanix, ensuring compliance with performance and security standards.

Systems Administration:

Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade Nutanix, VMware, Windows, Linux/Unix systems, and associated network/storage components across NIPRNET and SIPRNET environments.

Backup & Recovery:

Implement and monitor recovery checkpoints, manage backups using vSphere Data Protection, and conduct proof-of-concept testing before production deployment.

Security & Compliance:

Apply DISA patch vulnerabilities (CVE/IAVA), perform security scans, and ensure adherence to IA and DISA security policies.

Incident & Change Management:

Troubleshoot and resolve hardware/software issues, manage Remedy tickets, and coordinate changes through the Change Advisory Board (CAB).

Customer & Vendor Support:

Serve as point of contact for onsite/remote support, vendor escalations, and after-hours maintenance; create SOPs for processes and resolutions.

Virtualization Management:

Manage Nutanix Acropolis/AHV and VMware vSphere environments, configure virtual networks, manage datastores, create templates, and oversee patching/upgrades.

Collaboration & Leadership:

Work with team leads to align operations with organizational goals, develop user awareness programs for network policies, and maintain strong internal/external customer relationships .

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret security clearance.

Certifications:

VMware Certified Associate (VCA) required

VMware Certified Professional (VCP) must be obtained within 6 months of start date.

Proficiency in virtualization platforms, including Nutanix and VMware vSphere/vCenter.

Strong systems administration skills across Windows and Linux/Unix environments.

Experience with infrastructure design, virtualization migration, and performance optimization.

Knowledge of networking and storage systems, including LAN, SAN, and virtual network configuration.

Familiarity with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.

Understanding of cybersecurity best practices, DISA STIGs, and vulnerability remediation.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and application issues.

Experience with incident and change management processes and tools (e.g., Remedy).
