Genies is looking for a passionate and experienced Lead Security & Safety Engineer to join our Developer Platform Team and drive the development, technology and growth of our Security, Safety and Moderation systems while also prioritizing development agility. In this role, you will collaborate closely with other leaders across engineering, program management and product to define the scope and drive the execution of our security and moderation systems. The Developer Platform is at the heart of Genies mission to build an interoperable Avatar network, and the products we build form the foundations on which internal and external developers build their avatar-based experiences and products. Seated in either our SF Bay Area office (San Mateo) or Los Angeles based HQ, and reporting to the Director of Engineering, our ideal candidate has extensive experience with languages like Golang or Python. They have knowledge and experience with the changing landscape of Security systems given the sea changes in AI. They are great leaders with the ability to influence their peers and mentor other team members. At the same time they enjoy hands-on coding, designing and working with APIs for both internal and external consumption, and thrive in solving really fun and challenging technical problems. Responsibilities include developing and implementing security measures to protect company information assets, leading moderation toolset choice and implementation, balancing security with agile development, enhancing API security, monitoring for security threats, hardening infrastructure using best practices in AWS, GCP, GSuite, Github, and other SaaS tools, advising on endpoint and network security, enforcing IT and Security policies, devising novel sharing controls and monitoring, employing secure by default and zero trust models, identifying and remediating vulnerabilities, contributing to cloud security roadmaps, planning and executing system architecture, collaborating on long-term technology roadmap, and demonstrating adaptability by taking on additional responsibilities. Requirements include a Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field, 7+ years of professional experience, experience in planning and developing security systems at a startup, experience with 3rd party security toolsets and compliance, experience hardening systems written in Python, GoLang, technical leadership of cross-functional teams, moderation and safety experience, security audit process experience, knowledge of AI-related security landscape changes, API and distributed database experience, AWS or GCP experience, proficiency in Python or Golang, strong exploratory skills, self-starter with visionary spirit, strong goal and risk articulation skills, and team player with influencing skills.
