Job Description: Security Systems Engineer Internship
This internship offers a unique opportunity to join Salesforces elite Information Security team and be part of a critical line of defense against cyber threats. As a Security Systems Engineer intern, you will play a vital role in ensuring the 24/7 availability of Salesforces security monitoring infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deploying Large-Scale Systems: Gain hands-on experience deploying and managing large-scale distributed systems across multiple public cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Infrastructure Management: Design, install, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot the security monitoring infrastructure.
- Incident Response: Respond rapidly to outages or service degradation within the security monitoring infrastructure.
- Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis: Troubleshoot complex issues across network, hardware, and OS, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
- Automation and Improvement: Develop and enhance automation for deployment and maintenance tasks to optimize efficiency and reliability.
- Metrics and Optimization: Monitor key metrics and identify areas for continuous improvement.
Required Skills:
- Currently enrolled in a BS/MS/PhD program in Computer Science or a related field.
- Attending a University in North America.
- Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) managing system deployments, configuration, and application installations.
- Solid Linux systems engineering/operations experience within a DevOps environment.
- Scripting and coding skills in Go, Python, Ruby, or Shell scripting for automation.
- Experience with network device configuration (Switches, Firewalls, Routers) and public cloud networking (Security Groups, ELB, VPC, VPC Flow Logs, Route53).
- Experience with Configuration Management tools (Puppet, Helm, Ansible, Chef).
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi).
- Experience setting up and tuning CI/CD pipelines.
- Expertise in deploying and troubleshooting Linux OS.
- Excellent network troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to collaborate within a globally distributed team.
- Strong communication skills for documentation and collaboration.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with Agile and SCRUM practices.
- DevOps experience with containers, microservices, Kubernetes, and cloud-native applications.
- Large-scale systems management experience.
- Network Packet Broker configuration experience.
- Familiarity with log analysis tools (Splunk, Kibana).
- Knowledge of industry trends and the ability to articulate them clearly.
- Experience with network packet analysis tools like Suricata and Zeek (Bro).
