Early-stage startup revolutionizing 3D nanofabrication.

Operate at the forefront of nano-optics & photonics.

Flexible benefits allowance, equity options and uncapped PTO policy.

Weve teamed up with a revolutionary start-up who offer a novel manufacturing platform that can harness the full power of light, to achieve first-of-its-kind advancements in 3D nanofabrication. With over $20m in venture & grant funding to date, theyre now expanding the team, creating a need for a Metrology Technician to join them in Waltham, MA. They have a team of 25+ currently, with plans to scale at pace throughout 2025/26, meaning its a great time to be joining.

This is a primarily on-site role due to the nature of the project base, but theyre very flexible with working arrangements.

What will I do?

This role sits in their R&D manufacturing team, focused on testing components for in-house nanofabrication, before documenting and reporting key performance metrics. This includes surface, profile and volumetric measurements with a broad range of optical metrology tools, such as interferometers, scatterometers, microscopes and profilometers. Youll evaluate optical component performance (focal length, wavefronts etc.), as well as running custom tools in the metrology lab, taking point on testing fabricated optical components.

Outside of this, youre welcome to involve yourself in other tasks, like developing the custom in-house optical metrology equipment, or helping with data analysis and reporting for other R&D projects in the team. They operate with a flat structure, giving you valuable exposure and involvement in all facets of the business, to ensure a shared goal and continued team collaboration.

What skills do I need?

  • A technical degree, preferably related to the field of optics, photonics, material science, precision measurements, advanced manufacturing or something similar.
  • Hands-on experience in optical metrology, either professionally or in academia.
  • Proven background in metrology equipment setup, calibration & troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable working with delicate components in a lab or R&D setting.
  • Ability to run scripts on a command-line, as well as exposure to various data formats (JSON, HD5F etc.).
  • Any experimental design & measurement analysis techniques would be beneficial.
  • Awareness of optical measurement principles, as mentioned above, would be useful.

What do I get in return?

On top of a competitive salary in line with your experience (+ equity), the business offers a flexible benefits allowance, tailored by you to ensure that you get the most out of your package. As well as that, their PTO policy is fully flexible, with regular vacation days encouraged by the wider team. Theyre an embryonic start-up, offering countless opportunities for progression and continued learning, giving you visibility of day-to-day operations in a mature, inclusive environment. Youd be surrounded by a talented team, working collectively towards a pioneering advancement in the field of photonics / nano-optics!
