Stealth Startup
Looking for a leader with accountability and responsibility for transitioning the engineering environment from purely development and prototyping new products to a stable production product. The Vice President of Engineering will lead the transition of the engineering and test groups to support a structured and standardized production product and customer responsive environment. Engineering will lead the commercialization of the company’s products, provide engineering support of fielded products, evaluation of returned products for improvements, validation testing of standard and new products, and develop improvements and expand performance of the company’s products. He or she will also interface with investors, partners and potential customers. The Vice President of Engineering will report to the CTO and be responsible for sustaining engineering support of company production products, product development engineering and validation testing engineering. The factors critical to success in this role are:

Ability to understand risk to make solid decisions for what and when product changes should be implemented in production, and what needs more development prior to its implementation.
Ability to understand the underlying product technology and end applications in the context of development projects, assessing improvements and new products to meet critical program and field deployment requirements.
Ability to be agile to make the necessary changes to the business as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Transition engineering to include sustaining engineering to support product commercialization and production. Establish, manage and execute (as needed) the processes necessary to accomplish this transition.
Align the engineering organization to support the business model execution as well as long term product evolution and growth.
Direct and prioritize product development efforts to support strategic product and business goals.
Focus the team on the purpose, keeping them informed and motivated
Implement a solid and efficient engineering capability complete with best practices, processes and procedures that enable sustainable and profitable business growth.
After commercializing a stable product, work with field as new applications are evaluated to expand performance envelope of the product to expand market.
Lead, manage, hire and retain human capital for engineering. Be quick to adjust resource needs based on the needs of the business.
Establish strategic plan and goals for areas of responsibility, direct daily efforts and monitor progress.
Interact with business development and marketing to better align all facets of the business based on both the current needs and long-term requirements.
Maintain a team culture that seeks and values the input of employees, holds people accountable for results and encourages successful performance.
Responsible for product development related training programs of the company.
Drives the integration of field reliability data, root cause analysis and continuous improvement into the design lifecycle.
Prepare detailed analysis and communicate status reports on the business for executive meetings.
As a member of the Leadership Team, keep the team informed of engineering objectives and priorities and understand other divisions’ objectives and priorities.
Ensures engineering practices meet quality management standards and global regulatory requirements.
Drive safety culture leadership and interface with QHSE in order to reinforce design safety, HAZOP input and support for site and field service HSE concerns.
Commercialized products with stable, fully released design, standardized FAT process & procedures and BOM to production
Alignment of engineering projects for support of field product needs, current and future product needs, and necessary product improvements for 2026 projects
Assessment of engineering team capabilities for transition to include sustaining engineering group and reorganization plan
Sustaining engineering team as part of overall engineering group, focused on deployment production needs and product field support
Product design (custom for each product deployment) code stability and process optimization to streamline design process
Commercialized installation version of the product
Engineering organization for support of products in production and being deployed in the field to achieve profitable, sustainable business
New product developments and evolution to expand current tool capability for expanding market size
Skills, Experience, Education, and Abilities:
B.S. in Engineering, Science or other 4-year technical degree in a related discipline from an accredited institution.
10 years of experience in engineering with a leadership role in an organization focused on commercialization of complex engineered system and products.
Experience transitioning a technology company’s engineering (preferably a startup) from prototyping to pre-production to production and developing the organization, processes and the people needed for engineering to do so from the ground up.
A strong technical foundation, with knowledge of manufacturable design, technology maturation and integration, field support, product development driven by customer needs, evaluation and reaction to field returns/issues, and field reliability improvements.
Knowledge of and experience with turbomachinery, high tolerance rotating equipment and/or high-speed rotational systems strongly preferred.
Understanding of and operating experience with project-based and production-based organizations.
