The Director, Business Development at UDRI plays a crucial role in advancing the institute’s strategic goals by managing research programs and enhancing UDRI’s public image. Reporting to the Vice President of UDRI, this position oversees multi-division programs, supports large sponsored research initiatives, and manages classified programs. The Director will also lead UDRI’s strategic communications and branding efforts to communicate its mission and accomplishments.
Additional responsibilities include overseeing Firm-Fixed-Price (FFP) and congressionally mandated programs, ensuring sponsor compliance, performing business analyses for strategic decisions, and supporting organizational growth. The role ensures UDRI remains a leader in research and development, fosters collaboration, and supports growth and innovation.
Minimum Qualifications (MA1)
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
4 years of experience in business development, research operations, or managing diverse business functions, with at least 3 years in a comparable organization
Two years supervisory experience
Experience with federal government contracting, bid and proposal, program management, customer relations, and compliance
Understanding of current business processes related to sponsored research, especially federal procurement
Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects
Excellent communication skills
Experience working with teams and external partners
Experience managing classified programs and security assessments
Valid driver’s license and insurable record
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret/SCI Clearance
An MA2 requires all MA1 qualifications plus:
8 years of experience in business development or research operations, with at least 5 years in a similar organization
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in a scientific or technical field
10+ years of experience in business development or research management
Five+ years supervisory experience
Experience leading large R&D programs over $100 million
Experience with defense contracting
Experience managing sponsored research and research facilities
Knowledge of federal acquisition and security standards
Active PMP certification
Proficiency with Deltek Costpoint
Strong collaboration skills
