Senior Architectural Historian
Dewberry Engineers Inc. (Dewberry) invites applications for a full-time Senior Architectural Historian position within our national cultural resources practice group in our Pasadena, CA office. The qualified candidate must meet the Secretary of the Interior's standards for Architectural History. Candidates should demonstrate at least 15 years of professional experience conducting historic architectural surveys in California, particularly with CalTrans. Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations, including Section 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the California Environmental Quality Act, is required.

Responsibilities
Identify historic preservation issues and Areas of Potential Effect (APE), including physical field inspections.
Complete Section 106 consultation with State Historic Preservation Officers, working with senior cultural resource staff.
Draft agreement documents such as MOAs or PAs.
Serve as Principal Investigator on architectural resource documentation and evaluation projects, overseeing junior staff during field data collection.
Evaluate resources for NRHP eligibility and assess effects under Section 106 and relevant laws.
Prepare technical reports across various geographic and regulatory contexts.
Document historic properties following HABS/HAER/HALS standards.
Justify National Register eligibility determinations and effects assessments, including research reports and treatment measures.
Develop written documents such as historic contexts, resource analyses, and inventory forms.
Coordinate with involved parties to resolve project issues and adverse effects to historic resources.
Work effectively as part of a team.
Required Skills & Experience
Master's degree in historic preservation, architectural history, or related field, with coursework in American architectural history.
At least seven years of full-time experience in research, writing, or teaching in American architectural history, or equivalent professional experience on preservation projects.
Strong technical writing skills.
Ability to identify preservation issues and conduct physical inspections of APEs.
Experience with Section 106 consultation and drafting agreement documents.
Deep knowledge of historic structures and ability to justify eligibility and effects assessments under Section 106.
Ability to coordinate with stakeholders on project alternatives and adverse effects.
Meet the Secretary of the Interior's Qualification Standards as an Historian and Architectural Historian.
Minimum of 15 years of experience conducting historic architecture surveys for regulatory compliance.

Salary Range
The projected range is $127,663 - $164,138 annually, depending on skills, experience, and location.
