Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
We are seeking a strategic and proven leader to serve as our Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The desired candidate has a background in the construction industry and is experienced in working across several related businesses, each with multiple service divisions. The CFO will develop financial plans and strategies, establish long-range goals and implement policies to support growth and maintain fiscal stability. This is an in-person role located in our Westmont, Illinois office.

They will thrive in a dynamic environment, be an effective communicator, balance strategic oversight with attention to detail, all while building trust across all levels of the organization.
Compensation:
$180k - $250k

Role Summary:
The CFO will be directly responsible for overseeing the financial operations of three separate, related entities providing various construction services in the Midwest region with combined revenues of $75m, backlog of $100m+, 24 month projected backlog of $150m, and plans for geographic expansion. The CFO will manage the Controller who directly supervises all accounting staff: Accounting Manager, Payroll Specialist, Accounts Payable Administrator, Project Accountant, and Purchasing Manager.

Financial Strategy & Leadership Serve as a key strategic partner to the CEO and Executive Team. Lead and develop a high-performing accounting team Champion a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement. Lead and foster healthy working relationships with financial and surety partners Regularly analyze the company’s strengths and weaknesses and make appropriate recommendations. Prepare financial models, forecasts, and cost-benefit analysis to assist in decision making. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business development and capital investment decisions Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the company’s growth and operational objectives. Propose working capital and financing solutions to address the needs of a growing operation. Prepare tax liability projections and propose appropriate tax strategies to ownership. Develop and monitor annual KPIs across the organizations. Develop risk management programs that address strategic needs for insurance, bonding, and legal compliance. Financial Reporting Oversee the preparation and accuracy of all financial statements in accordance with GAAP: monthly, quarterly, annual financial closings and external audits, and consolidated company financials – ensure timely monthly submissions to bank, and quarterly submissions to surety Provide quarterly board quality financial presentations Regularly analyze division and department-level P&L’s and evaluate financial performance and trends. Conduct budget variance analysis, track overhead allocations, and provide monthly reporting Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts. Create and manage dynamic financial models for scenario planning and long-range forecasting. Monitor and optimize company cash flow and working capital, ensuring liquidity for project execution. Financial Compliance & Internal Controls Review, revise, and develop robust accounting processes that meet or exceed industry’s best practices. Develop and implement rigorous cost controls across all companies and departments. Establish and maintain strong internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial accuracy. Ensure adherence to financial reporting standards (GAAP) and construction-specific tax regulations. Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations, including tax filings and labor law reporting. Education & Credentials Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field

strongly preferred . Experience Minimum 10–15 years of progressive financial leadership experience. At least 5 years in a CFO or senior finance role in the construction industry or a project-based business environment. Proven track record managing project-level financials, job costing, and construction-specific P&L structures. Technical Proficiency Expertise in construction accounting systems (e.g., Foundation, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint Vista, Procore financials, or similar). Advanced Excel modeling and financial analysis skills. High level of proficiency in job costing, WIP schedules, retainage accounting, and change order management.
