Housed in a 12,000-square-foot converted bank, it features three performance venues, an immersive art gallery, and a wine and dessert bar. Dedicated to invigorating American arts through the work of military and first responder veterans and their families, Savage Wonder produces theater, concerts, comedy, and visual art that are intimate, surprising, whimsical, and absurd. Position Summary: The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key executive leader responsible for ensuring the effective management and growth of the organization. Reporting directly to the Founder/Artistic Director the COO oversees five pillars of the organization:
Organizational Management, Construction Oversight, Financial Stewardship, Development/Fundraising, and Marketing/Communications.
This role requires a strategic thinker with the ability to lead complex projects, manage multiple departments, and ensure all operations align with the organization’s mission and long-term vision. This role requires a strategic thinker with the ability to lead complex projects, manage multiple departments, and ensure all operations align with the organization’s mission and long-term vision. Core Responsibilities by Pillar
1. Management Direct daily operations across all departments to ensure efficiency, accountability, and mission alignment. Supervise and mentor department heads, fostering collaboration and professional growth. Develop and implement operational policies, systems, and procedures to improve workflow. 2. Construction Oversight Lead planning, budgeting, and execution of construction and renovation projects. Coordinate with architects, contractors, and vendors to ensure projects are on time, within budget, and of the highest quality. Oversee ongoing facilities management, maintenance, and safety compliance. 3. CFO/Financial Stewardship Serve as the organization’s chief financial officer, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and audits. Ensure compliance with all financial, legal, and regulatory requirements. Provide strategic financial analysis to guide decision-making and long-term planning. 4. Development & Fundraising Collaborate with the development team to design and execute fundraising strategies, donor cultivation plans, and sponsorship initiatives. Support capital campaigns and grant opportunities to secure revenue for operations and special projects. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key donors, partners, and stakeholders. 5. Marketing & Communications Oversee the creation and execution of marketing campaigns that promote programs, events, and the organization’s mission. Ensure brand consistency and visibility across all platforms and materials. Partner with program staff to expand audience engagement and community outreach. Qualifications: Proven leadership experience in at least three of the five pillars; strong preference for candidates with experience in all. Background in nonprofit, arts, cultural, or mission-driven organizations preferred. Demonstrated success in managing large-scale construction or renovation projects. Exceptional skills in budgeting, financial planning, and contract management. Strong track record in marketing, communications, and fundraising. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Reports To:
