Operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during medical situations requiring support or replacement of the patient's cardiopulmonary/circulatory functions, ensuring proper management of physiological variables. Duties, upon physician prescription and in accordance with hospital policy, include but are not limited to: Extra-corporeal circulation/cardiopulmonary support Counter-pulsation Circulatory support/ventricular assistance Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) Blood conservation techniques/auto-transfusion Myocardial preservation Anticoagulation and hematologic monitoring/analysis Physiological monitoring/analysis Blood gas and chemistry monitoring/analysis Induction of hypothermia/hyperthermia with reversal Hemodilution Hemo-filtration/ultra-filtration Administration of medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit Documentation related to these duties Other duties may include: Isolated limb/organ perfusion Electrophysiological analysis Organ preservation Dialysis assistance EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Responsibilities
Prepares for cardiac and non-cardiac procedures.
1.1 Assesses patient medical status and calculates perfusion requirements (e.g., blood flow, BSA, CI).
Conducts perfusion techniques.
2.1 Monitors perfusion procedures and patient status to maintain appropriate vital signs, flows, temperature, pressure, etc.
Education
3.1 Maintains CCP status through meetings, in-services, and publications. Keeps current with new developments in perfusion technology and cardiac surgery.
Communication and Interaction
4.1 Works well as a team member, lending assistance when needed.

Qualifications
Education:
Graduation from an accredited cardiopulmonary perfusion program with a master's degree or a bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred. Experience:
Graduate of an accredited university with a bachelor's or master's degree. Certified or eligible to be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. Licensure:
Connecticut State Perfusion License/ABCP Certified Clinical Perfusionist within one year of hire. Special Skills:
Knowledge of anatomy and cardio-respiratory systems, specialized medical, mechanical, and electronic equipment, medical, clinical, and surgical procedures and practices, hospital organization, and administrative policies and procedures. Requires analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Additional Information
