Job Description The Engineering & Applied Physics team at Vertex, San Diego, is seeking an experienced Instrumentation Software Engineer to join our small, elite team of engineers and physicists. This team develops advanced robotics, automation, microfluidics, and microscopy solutions for challenging drug discovery problems. In this role, you will define instrument control architecture, develop control software, and ensure seamless integration with scientific workflows to accelerate drug discovery. Location:
Onsite in San Diego. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Define instrument control architecture and develop software for data acquisition, motion control, signal processing, diagnostics, automation, and user interface. Design and implement comprehensive instrumentation software packages independently. Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Bio Engineers, and Physicists to develop custom in-house instruments. Lead software design reviews and implement solutions. Develop, deploy, and support software from proof of concept to production and operation. Train and support scientists in instrument operation and maintenance. Guide junior engineers, leveraging cross-functional skills to meet project goals. Provide innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges. Lead major project completions and adopt new instrumentation technologies. Knowledge and Skills: Proficient in Python, C#, C, or C++ for instrument control, automation, or robotics. Strong control software development skills, including UI/UX, configuration, troubleshooting, and service. Experience with object-oriented programming and large data set management. SQL or database programming experience. Familiarity with software version control methodologies. Experience working in software teams. Willingness to learn LabVIEW with DQMH toolkit. Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical systems. Strong initiative in project planning and leadership. Effective team collaboration skills. Ability to switch between independent and team-based work. Innovative problem-solving skills and a track record of solutions. Education, Experience, and Requirements: Master's degree with 7+ years or Bachelor's degree with 10+ years in life sciences, engineering, or academia. Proven experience developing software/firmware for instrumentation, automation, or robotics. Passion for science and engineering, aiming to impact patient lives. Salary Range:
$137,600 - $206,400. Additional Information:
