Job Summary
DEFINITION
Under the supervision of the Director of Transportation (DOT) or designee, the Bus Driver Trainee will complete an estimated 6-month training program comprised of both classroom and behind the wheel training until successful completion of the required California Department of Motor Vehicles and California Highway Patrol licensing to become a certified school bus driver. Successful candidates will be eligible to apply for available permanent school bus driver positions with the Chaffey Joint Union High School District. The starting salary for school bus driver is currently $25.56 per hour.
Training will be broken up into two parts with approximately 20 - 30 hours of classroom training and 25 hours of behind-the-wheel training. Classroom training will require covering and testing for 12 units and the California Commercial Driver Handbook. Behind-the-wheel training will consist of hands-on training and the passing of six skill levels, pre-trip inspection procedures, and a final evaluation. The training schedule will be determined by the District.
No absences will be permitted during the classroom portion of training. Absences during the behind-the-wheel portion of training must be justified and approved by the DOT. Excessive absences during the training will warrant for the candidate to be removed from the program.

START DATE:
This position is to begin as soon as possible.. However, a start date is contingent on fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice. Fingerprints will be taken at the time the position is accepted. Applicant is responsible for the required fingerprinting fee. (amount of fee varies) Payment is due at the time of service. Cash is not accepted.
Fingerprint clearance does not pertain to current employees of the Chaffey District.
