Job Description / Essential Elements:
SOQUEL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT
JOB TITLE: SCHOOL BUS OPERATOR UTILITY SERVICES
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision to safely drive a school bus vehicle over an assigned route in the transportation of students, including to and from school, field trips, and other special trips; to maintain buses in a clean and safe condition and to perform all related duties assigned.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Maintenance and Operations
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Drive a school bus over an assigned route in accordance with a time schedule.
Board and discharge student passengers.
Enforce District policies and procedures and maintain discipline on buses.
Prepare daily reports of mileage, time and student loads.
Maintain bus cleanliness on a daily basis.
Render first aid or emergency assistance as needed.
Maintain good order maintaining students on the buses following district policies regarding the disciplining of children and contact with parents and other citizens.
Maintain regular attendance.
Work cooperatively with others.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Performs custodial and grounds duties when necessary; assists maintenance personnel.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Training and Experience: One year of general driving experience or six months of experience as a bus driver or any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities..
Knowledge: Knowledge of safe driving practices; provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code, and the Education Code as they apply to the operation of vehicles transporting school children; basic first aid practices and geography of the school district.
Abilities: Ability to operate a school bus and other transportation exercising good judgment and extreme caution; maintain order among students on a bus; learn a designated bus rout, bus stops and district traffic hazards; make simple reports; understand and carry out oral and written instructions and establish and maintain effective working relations with students, the public, and staff members.
Physical Effort/Work Environment: Good physical condition as determined by pre and post employment inquiries and health reports.
Terms of Employment: A valid standard California driver's license, or a valid School Bus Driver's Certificate issued by the California Highway Patrol. A pre-placement physical examination may be required.

Applicants will be notified ONLY if being considered for an interview. Employees that are new PERS members will pay 7% of their PERS contribution.
A successful applicant may be required to submit to a physical examination at the District's expense.
