Key Role & Responsibilities
The Senior CAD/Survey Technician leads CAD production for survey and SUE projects, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant deliverables. This role involves advanced data processing, LiDAR integration, and collaboration with engineers and project managers. The Senior Technician also mentors junior staff, manages CAD standards, and oversees the delivery of high-quality mapping products.

• Lead CAD production for complex survey and utility projects
• Apply ASCE 38-22 standards for utility designating and test hole documentation
• Perform advanced post-processing of field data including coordinate transformations and control adjustments
• Develop and maintain utility basemaps incorporating LiDAR from manholes and overhead features
• Compile and review utility records, GIS data, and locator markings
• Create custom CAD templates, cell libraries, and maintain CAD standards
• Perform QA/QC on CAD deliverables and troubleshoot production issues
• Coordinate with survey managers and engineers to meet client requirements
• Train and mentor junior CAD/Survey Technicians in SUE workflows and software
• Assist in managing deliverable schedules and track drawing progress
  

Requirements

• 510+ years of CAD/survey experience, preferably with SUE or utility mapping focus
• Expert proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, and MicroStation (ORD preferred)
• Strong understanding of survey data workflows and subsurface utility mapping
• Familiarity with LiDAR processing and GIS data integration
• Knowledge of VDOT and other municipal CAD/SUE standards
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior Party Chief or lead field survey experience
• Experience managing CAD teams or multi-office production environments
• Ability to implement workflow improvements and automation tools
  

Advancement Opportunities

• Senior technicians may progress to Survey Project Coordinator, CAD Manager, or Survey Management roles based on demonstrated leadership, technical expertise, and project execution.
