Job Summary
School Bus Drivers drive any type and size of school bus that may be operated by the school district for the transportation of passengers on regularly scheduled routes.

BONSALL UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT
TITLE: BUS DRIVER
DEPARTMENT: TRANSPORTATION
REPORTS TO: TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR
WORK HOURS: 6 AM - 9 AM AND 1:40 PM - 4:40 PM
WORK YEAR: 10 MONTHS
SALARY RANGE: RANGE 14, STEP 1
DEFINITION
Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, drive a school bus over designated routes for the purpose of transporting students and to do related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and possession of valid licenses and certifications as stated in Licenses and Requirements below.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Drives a school bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules; picks up and discharges students; escorts students across streets or roadways stopping traffic as necessary; may transport students and teachers on field trips to various locations, making departure and arrival times as scheduled; may service buses with fuel; checks vehicles daily to maintain safe operating conditions; cleans windshields and headlights; may wash and wax vehicles; advises mechanics of necessary repairs; attends scheduled meetings and safety programs; maintains order among students on buses; follows District policies regarding discipline of students and contact with parents and the public; reports incidents which affect the safety of pupils.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of safe driving practices; knowledge of provisions of the California Vehicle Code and the Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in transporting students; knowledge of first aid practices; ability to drive a school bus safely and efficiently; ability to maintain order among students on a school bus; ability to recognize malfunctions in equipment and take appropriate action; ability to learn a designated bus route, including stops and traffic hazards; ability to maintain simple records; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to work cooperatively with others.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must possess:
•Valid Class B-P California driver's license with air brake and passenger endorsements
•Valid California special driver certificate for school bus
•Valid DL-51 medical card

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
May start and end work schedule at various times; may work single split and extended splits; may work late shifts; may be assigned varied spot times and locations; may be on duty during lunch period.
NOTE: Safety-sensitive job class. Employees in this job class will be subject to random selection for alcohol or controlled substance testing. Employment offer is contingent on criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Tuberculosis Clearance, and Pre-placement medical examination, including drug testing.
