Job Summary:
Under general supervision and direction, drives a bus or other assigned vehicle over designated routes to transport students on a regular basis; and does related work as required.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Drives a bus or other vehicle over designated routes in accordance with prescribed time schedules on a daily basis, picking up and discharging students.
- Transports students and faculty on field trips, community services, and to other school-sponsored events, choosing the best routes and making departure and arrival time as scheduled.
- Maintains discipline among the students on the bus and at the bus stops, following district policies regarding the disciplining of students and contact with parents and other citizens.
- Makes daily and weekly written reports on mileage, number of students transported and condition of buses.
- When not driving, does general upkeep of bus in terms of gas, oil, washing and cleaning of the inside and outside of the bus or vehicle assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education equivalent to graduation from the twelfth grade.
- Must possess a valid Class B California drivers license with a passenger endorsement, a valid California School Bus Drivers Certificate and a valid Standard Red Cross First Aid Certificate.
- Ability to deal effectively with students and understand and practice transportation safety.
- Must demonstrate good judgment and extreme caution in operating district vehicles.
