The unit cares for 48 beds of step-down level of care. Patients include those undergoing cardiac surgeries and managing conditions such as CHF, pulmonary hypertension, and telemetry. Patient ratios are 1:3 during the day and 1:4-5 at night, depending on acuity. Experience required with chest tubes, IV drips (such as Diltiazem and heparin), and managing drains for post-surgical patients. Skills in hemodynamic monitoring and invasive BP monitoring are essential. Knowledge in administering vasoactive medications and maintaining external pacers is required.
