The Medication Nurse is responsible for administering methadone to patients as prescribed by the Medical Director or Clinic Physician, ensuring medication accountability. They assist in screening patients and maintain close contact with counselors regarding patient progress. Duties are performed within the scope of their license or certification. Responsibilities include administering methadone as prescribed, evaluating and assessing new and current patients for treatment appropriateness, observing and assessing patients post-administration, following all physician orders, and assessing patient appropriateness for dosing. Other duties include collecting urine specimens, filing contract urines, and recording results, maintaining medical supply inventories, receiving medication shipments per DEA and company procedures, achieving phlebotomist certification if required, coordinating and preparing courtesy and vacation dose packages, training new nurses, implementing quality health standards, maintaining accurate patient dosing records and medication inventory reconciliation, reporting and documenting medication discrepancies to the Nursing Supervisor and Program Director, planning and implementing treatment center improvements, participating in weekly treatment team meetings and external training, communicating regularly with nursing team members, monitoring physicals and lab work, staying updated on drug abuse trends and treatment information, participating in monthly in-service trainings, ensuring treatment center meets accreditation standards, meeting attendance standards and being ready for work as scheduled, reporting work-related injuries, illnesses, hazards, or security issues to the supervisor, and performing other duties as assigned. Minimum requirements include being licensed as LPN/LVN or RN in the state of employment, having CPR and First Aid certification, holding a valid driver's license, and having preferred experience in chemical addiction. Additionally, candidates should possess accurate data entry skills and basic computing knowledge, the ability to work independently under pressure and handle multiple tasks, quick reaction capability, knowledge of dosing equipment, centrifuge, physical assessment tools, test strips, breathalyzers, and other medical equipment, and basic knowledge and skill in using standard office equipment. Physical requirements and working conditions include prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching, alternate sitting and walking, close proximity to team members, variable workload with periodic high stress and activity levels, standard medical office conditions, interactions with ill patients, those with infectious diseases, mental health diagnoses, and/or criminal justice involvement, possible use of protective equipment, exposure to bloodborne pathogens, and long periods of keyboarding.
