Housekeeper
We believe that everyone deserves a home! Breaking Ground operates nearly 4,000 units of housing across New York City, along with housing in upstate New York and Connecticut. Supportive housing is widely recognized as a proven and cost-effective solution to chronic homelessness. But we didn't stop at providing housing. Breaking Ground's programs and services help people experiencing street homelessness to come indoors. Through our Street to Home outreach program and transitional housing resources, we help people get, and stay, on the path to a permanent home. Located in Brownsville, Brooklyn, The Hegeman offers 161 units of permanent supportive housing to low-income New Yorkers, people living with HIV/AIDS, and chronically homeless individuals, including individuals with mental illness. The Center for Urban Community Services provides comprehensive onsite social services, and Breaking Ground coordinates property management services. Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Housekeeper is a part of the department that maintains the common areas of the safe haven. Examples of common areas include offices, multi-purpose rooms, roof deck, garden, trash collection area, lobby, fitness room, and sidewalks. Client areas will also be cleaned. This position has a 35-hour work week, onsite. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Sweep, mop, wash, dust, and vacuum Seal, wax, and buff floors and hard surfaces Maintain sidewalks, including sweeping, raking leaves, and shoveling snow Clean individual units when vacated or requested by work order Sort and package recyclables to comply with NYC regulations Operate compactor Set up and clean up for meetings and other events Assist painters and engineers when assigned Perform work at other facilities as required Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications
Comparable work experience Experience operating of vacuum cleaner, high-speed buffer Ability to lift and move furniture, appliances, etc. High School Diploma, GED, Trade School Diploma, or equivalent Ability to stand for several hours during shift and to climb stairs in the event of an emergency Experience working with special needs populations a plus Basic knowledge of using a computer is preferred EOE/M/F/Vet/Disabled Job Details Pay Type Hourly Hiring Min Rate 17.86 USD Hiring Max Rate 17.86 USD
