Staff Accountant

Join a dynamic commercial construction company specializing in public works projects, with a primary focus on supporting CalTrans projects. As a Staff Accountant, you will play a vital role in managing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and various transactional accounting responsibilities. Responsibilities

Review all invoices for job identification and taxes. Complete all necessary Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for subcontractors. Process invoices and issue checks. Post accounts payable invoices and maintain records. Follow up on any missing invoices or invoice-related issues. Distribute employee credit card expense reports and manage receipts for reimbursement. Process employee expense reports and reimbursements. Set up job cost codes and categories in Timberline. Update pre-lien records per job in Timberline. Manage time & material worksheets, pre-liens, stop notices, and progress billings. Manage Cal-OSHA permits and safety forms (Form 300). Serve as a backup for payroll needs, including garnishments/deductions. Oversee unemployment claims and set up new hires in internal systems. Manage W-4s, payroll tax deposits/withholdings, and quarterly payroll tax reports. Manage subcontractor certified payroll reports and fringe benefits reports. Essential Skills

Proficiency in accounting, construction accounting, and GAAP principles. Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and vlookups. Experience with accounts payable, payroll, certified payroll, general ledger, reconciliation, month-end processes, journal entry, reporting, accounts receivable, balance sheet, financial statements, and cost accounting. Familiarity with Timberline construction accounting software. Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business. 3+ years of experience as a Staff Accountant within the construction industry, particularly in union payroll and public works. Experience with construction accounting software, Timberline preferred. Work Environment

The role requires working on-site five days a week in a small company setting, consisting of 3 office staff and 10 field staff. The environment fosters collaboration and offers opportunities to contribute significantly to impactful projects. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $83000.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
