Performs all aspects of histology including tissue fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, slide staining, and coverslipping. Ensures accurate specimen orientation and sectioning, applies routine and special stains, and reviews slides for quality assurance. Prepares frozen sections, maintains quality control records, and accurately distributes slides to pathologists. Operates laboratory equipment, prepares reagents, and uses the LIS for workflow management. Participates in off-hours pager coverage as needed. Qualifications
Education: Bachelors Degree required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials: HT or HTL (ASCP) certification, or eligibility preferred Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Histology experience required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have thorough understanding of the theories, practice and techniques used in histology to include fixation, decalcification, processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains and frozen sections. Must be fully competent on all laboratory instrumentation to include pH meter, balances, microtomes, tissue processors, cryostats, coverslippers, etc. Must be able to prepare percent, molar and normal solutions and stains. Must be able to correctly and accurately embed all human tissue to include skin and or animal tissue then cut at least 70 blocks, with multiple levels and slides per block before noon. Must be able cut artifact free two micrometer sections. Must be able to perform a high quality manual H&E stain. Additional Job Details
