Community Engagement Manager
Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Global Arts Live is a vibrant nonprofit arts presenter dedicated to celebrating the worlds music and dance. Since its founding in 1990, the organization has been a cultural anchor in the Greater Boston area, presenting more than 60 performances annually in venues ranging from intimate 250 seat clubs to major theaters seating up to 3,500. Known for its adventurous spirit and deep commitment to cultural exchange, Global Arts Live connects local audiences with renowned and emerging artists from more than 70 countries. The organizations programs engage audiences with performances that span traditions, genres, and geographies, and each season brings a rich mix of global artistry to venues in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Connie Chin, who joined in 2021, and Founder Maure Aronson, Global Arts Live is undertaking a strategic leap forward and unprecedented organizational growth by launching a new performing arts center set to open in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA in fall 2026. The custom-built center features a 400-seat state-of-the-art proscenium theater designed for dance, music, and other genres, a 125-seat cabaret stage, a rehearsal studio, and a ground floor commons that will offer an urban living room to the public. Strategic priorities include strengthening local partnerships, expanding educational and audience development efforts, and building sustainable earned revenue models, all while staying true to its core mission of presenting transformative global performance. The new venue offers meaningful opportunities to deepen the organizations commitment to community engagement, including collaborations with neighborhood organizations, cultural groups, and civic partners. Community Engagement Manager Role Overview As Community Engagement Manager, you will respond strategically to the needs of our community and encourage our constituencies to engage with the art that we present. You will report to and work collaboratively with the Director of Artistic Programming. You will also be in close communication with the CEO and Founder to ensure alignment with the vision and objectives of the organization and its partners, and with the General Manager who will be managing the venue rentals. Your work will intersect with the Production and Audience Services departments to execute your events, with the Development department to secure the resources for your programs, and the Marketing department to promote them to the public. Responsibilities Community Relations and New Partnerships We aim to be welcoming to all and to deepen our connections to our artistic, immigrant, marginalized, and hyperlocal Cambridge neighborhood constituencies, in addition to strengthening relationships with current Global Arts Live audiences and Kendall Square biotech industry workers and economy. As a brand-new venue, the opening of 585 Arts creates exciting opportunities to build community relations from the ground up. In this new role, you will: Build authentic, reciprocal relationships and partnerships in communities, listening and responding to how 585 Arts can best connect to and serve our constituents Coordinate the distribution of 25 free rentals in the main theater and/or cabaret stage Manage the 585 Arts Advisory Circle, a group of artists and nonprofit leaders from the community that provides input and advice Manage the Global Arts Live CONNECT program that distributes deeply discounted tickets to constituents of partner organizations who face economic barriers to attending our concerts Bring new partnership and program ideas to authentically engage and build audiences for Global Arts Live and 585 Arts, working closely with marketing and development departments to secure funding and promote events Programming Working collaboratively with the Director of Artistic Programs, and coordinating closely with the production department, you will facilitate music, dance, and other genre concerts and activities including: At least 75 nights annually in the 125-seat cabaret space, a mix of ticketed and free events Residency activities for artists in our main theater and rehearsal studio Buskers to perform on the 585 Arts outdoor platform Engagement activities adjacent to Global Arts Live programs presented both at 585 Arts and external venues, such as master classes and workshops with artists, post-show discussions, and artist meet-and-greet events. Qualifications Minimum three years of experience developing community relationships and live performance cultural programs Proven ability to drive results when working collaboratively with a wide range of people, culture, and ideas Experience taking projects from vision to reality Effective in a fast-paced environment, organized, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously Flexible schedule, able to work nights and weekends Able to lift 30 lbs and climb 2 flights of stairs. Compensation This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary range of $70,000 to $80,000, commensurate with experience.
